Action: Media Tell the Truth!
Media Tell The Truth (MTTT) supports Extinction Rebellion’s first demand, “Tell The Truth” about the climate and ecological emergency (CEE)
We recognise the power of the media - especially public service broadcasters - to educate and influence the public and trigger change.
Engagement with the media industry is aimed at:
More volume of coverage of the CEE
Higher editorial priority & prominence
Accurate facts and framings
Exposure of malign influences of vested interests

Support the voices of science
Help out any scientists getting denial pushback, eg Julia Steinberger, Alex Morss. Note it’s better to add new supportive comments than to engage with the denier comments.
Support good reporting
Support any posts from @BBCScienceNews and @guardianeco which raise the alarm about the ecological emergency.

Complain to the BBC when they get it wrong
Complain to the BBC when they get it wrong
We don’t believe in attacking the BBC for no reason, but complaints let them know when they get it wrong. Your complaints will be reviewed by the BBC and they do make a difference to how it reports on this critical issue.
When to complain
We recommend complaining if you encounter any BBC reporting (local or national, via any media) that meets the following criteria:
Their economic narrative reinforces business as usual and ignores limits to growth.
The top stories fail to give enough prominence or urgency to the rapidly unfolding CEE, which should be daily headline news similar to Covid or wartime. Good sources of up to date CEE evidence and analysis are @CarbonBrief, @ed_hawkins, @EcoWatch.
Interviewers fail to challenge politicians’ false claims about the UK’s progress. Example: whenever a minister is allowed to say that the UK is a net zero world leader, point out that this is merely accounting trickery.
A platform is given to fossil-fuel-backed Tufton Street think tanks, without disclosing their affiliations.
How to complain
The page for BBC complaints is here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaints
Note that the initial reply is likely to be a polite and generalised defence, so it’s usually necessary to go to the next stage for assurance that the specific issue is being considered.
